We already knew Marco Barbon’s work, notably a series of photographs he had taken in Asmara. His photography deeply touched us and we were lucky enough to meet him through another photographer friend. Capturing images of Asmara was both an achievement and a big risk for Marco.
Eritrea, a tiny, little-known country in the Horn of Africa has a turbulent history and was still inaccessible to tourists when Marco decided to travel there. He came back with some amazing Polaroids, pictures in sun-bleached color of a ghost town that looked like a film set.
Marco had already published Asmara Dream with Editions Filigranes; we wanted to complement this magnificent series of pictures with something in the collection and we chose around 40 new images together. The book is beautifully sensitive and very poetic.
