The idea for the first ever Portraits de Villes came about during a party in Paris. Vincent already had the beginnings of an idea in mind when he booked a ticket for Los Angeles the next day. Barely had he stepped off the plane, than the most conflict-averse photographer in the world took a memorable sucker punch without even knowing why. He was floored two hours after he arrived in the city, LA had knocked him out. What’s left, are 64 pictures of Los Angeles stripped bare, the LA of Bret Easton Ellis, like a hyper-lapse film. The first ever Portraits de Villes edited in 45 minutes while listening to Moby’s first album underneath the bell tower of Montmartre, orange like the evening light in LA.
Portraits de Villes is a collection of books, where an artist is given carte blanche to illustrate a city of his / her choice. Each book is a unique journey, guided by the singular gaze of an artist.
