Pia van Peteghem
Pia has been making pottery… forever ! Her grandmother Mona introduced her to clay as a child, this sensual, soft, meditative matter, becomes her material of choice. The potter’s wheel, her tool of research and expression of choice. Almost hypnotic. And then there is this tragic moment, the opening of the oven:one renewed emotion each time. Completely magical.
In her workshop Pia works, porcelain, its light and translucency. Her passion for clay and for singular forms stands out in all her work. Pia’s ceramics are a subtle blend of strength and softness. From containers, multifunctional containers, to simple tea cups… Her pieces produced in her Parisian workshop in small quantities adapt to as many uses that remain to be invented by each.
Each object has a special purpose, says Pia, « This cup, I had imagined it to drink tea, its wide handle allows not to burn if the water is too hot, and its curves allow to warm the hands. I wanted a cozy, feminine cup. I was inspired by the English singer Beth Ditto… »
Pia also works on large sculptural pieces, turned or shaped. She also works with plaster especially for the realization of her series, Polyhedra.
Pia graduated from La Cambre (National school of visual arts), in ceramics.
Pia lives and works in Paris.
