Like a message in a bottle thrown out to sea, Guillaume Bonn sent us a few of the photos he had taken on a trip to Mozambique, between Maputo and Beira. There was no particular connection between us, but Guillaume dreamed of doing a Portraits de Villes on one or both of these towns and we literally fell in love with his pictures. After a first meeting, he told us of his strong link with Africa, his family, a childhood spent in Madagascar and student days in Addis Ababa.
We did not have enough pictures to publish a book on Maputo or Beria and it was difficult to get back to Mozambique but we saw each other often after that, with a common and ongoing desire to publish a book about a city in Africa. The destination had to make sense for him.
