Evangelia arrived in the be-poles Paris offices on rue de Lancry one evening, full of stories of the Mediterranean. She had just returned from her first trip with the seafarers of the deep blue; crews from cargo ships, ferries and fishing trawlers and she had enriched her photographs with etchings and drawings. We knew that we had to write a story together, and it had to be Athens. We chose her hometown in winter, when the elderly come out onto the deserted beaches.
