Siân Davey particularly moved us with the series Martha when we saw it at the Prix Virginia 2016, an award for female photographers that she went on to win the same year. As partners of the prize, be-poles asked her to be a part of the Portraits de Villes collection and gave her carte blanche to capture the city of her choice. Siân chose Calcutta. Her photographic approach involves making herself a part of the day-to-day of the teens she shoots, inviting herself into personal lives that often exclude adults, so that she can photograph them, magnifying their freedom with the great gentleness of her pictures. For Portraits de Villes, she created a book of delicate photography, which blends so many of the emotions triggered by the Indian city.

Portraits de Villes is a collection of books, where an artist is given carte blanche to illustrate a city of his / her choice. Each book is a unique journey, guided by the singular gaze of an artist.
